Spring is quickly approaching meaning hibernation season is soon over and people are going to be out and about looking for things to do. We are excited to announce second series of craft shows this summer! Paste and The Soulard Business Association are proud to present the second annual  Soulard Market Park Arts and Crafts Fair, an event featuring local artists as well as live music. There are four event dates May 14, June 11, and July 9 and August 13. The fair will take place in the Soulard Market Park located at the corner of 9th and Lafayette. Fair hours are from 9am-3pm.

The best part of holding the fairs here in Soulard is the already available crowd that frequents the market every Saturday.  Last year was a huge success so we are at it again!

Each artist will be given a 12×12 space. The artists are required to bring their own tents, tables and display items. If there are more than two artists sharing a booth there will be an additional fee. Booth fees are $55 a space per event. Any artists who wishes to sign up for all four dates (and is accepted) will receive a discounted price of $25 for the last fair date.. All items sold MUST be handmade!

Please fill out the online application and mail it with a check to Paste or call to pay by credit card. Any applicant who is not accepted will get their check returned in the mail within 10 days of being notified.

I always knew the importance of buying locally but truthfully I have to admit there were times when convenience won out. I’ve spent the last few months slowing down a bit and taking the time to visit and support local stores. It is amazing how many great local businesses there are in this city. Most of us choose to live in a city because of the diversity of the people and independent businesses. We all need to remember to support those stores and restaurants so they don’t go away! I recently became a member of BUILD St. Louis a local organization dedicated to supporting local businesses. I’m going to shamelessly plug them and suggest that you check out their website with member listings as well as facts and advice on how buying locally affects our whole community. I’m not asking you to swear of Target because let’s face it that’s hardly possible. Just asking we all (myself included) take a little pride in this city and all that is has to offer.

What is the worst craft fail you’ve had?

I attempted to crochet a hat for my father when I was 11. It looked like a misshapen sock with a crooked cuff! It was the ugliest color brown. He wore it proudly for about a week! Then I never saw it again.

I’ve also had numerous resin messes that were a comedy of errors in my kitchen! That stuff sticks everywhere when you spill it! Practice makes perfect!

Where do you get your materials from?

Garage sales, folks who give me their trash and vintage on-line shops. I also shop on Etsy.

If you could talent swap with another local St. Louis crafter for a day who would it be?

Melissa Villediago, owner of Villa Design. She is the most talented glass artist! I love her style!

I love the homey feeling of the store! I adore the fact that Paste has classes and supports local artists. The owner seems pretty cool, too!
